Hoda Hoteit was born and raised up to the age of 25, in Beirut, which she calls "The City of War". She remembers hearing the sound of bombs and gunfire everyday. She recalls how her family used to huddle together with the neighbourhood in the shelters, hoping the violence would soon pass. Despite the trauma of war, Hoda would find solace in art. When she grew up and got married, she fled her home country with her husband, hoping for a safe place where she could raise her future children.
Hoda had to give up her dream of art. After having her children, she became so caught up in her family that her art had taken a backseat in her life. She felt guilt and pain for letting the artist inside her down. Years passed, her children grew up, and she decided to finally rediscover her long lost passion. She picked up her canvas, brushes and paints and immersed herself, all her heart and soul into creating once again. She began taking regular classes and workshops, eventually going on to study as a fine artist in the Milan Art Institutes.
Hoda creates art by connecting with her creative intuition and allowing it to guide her through the process. Her pieces are influenced by the relationship between humanity and nature. She has a passion for figurative art connected with the expressionistic abstract. When painting female figures, she presents her own vision of the feminine: power, creation, energy and life. Her paintings often depict people in peaceful settings and places that evoke happiness. They are like portals into other worlds, where beauty, mystery and emotion intertwine on the canvas. Her free spirit is reflected in her process. She experiments with many different mediums, falling in love with spray paints, inks and water soluble mediums, allowing her to discover the joy of painting without expectations. She delves into the world of mixed media painting, blending elements of acrylic, water colour, collage and texture mediums to create deeply layered and textured works of art. She always finishes her work with oil paint to ensure richness of the colours. In a quote from Hoda, she says, "Art is my shelter, my escape and my happy place - and a day without colour, is a day that doesn't count."
Hoda will carry on weaving together tales of life, love and spirit throughout her art. Now she spends hours each day in her home studio - her own private space decorated with scented candles and flowers, with a window view of the skyline and trees, where she observes the changes of nature throughout the seasons. She is a professional artist who is a part of the Hillingdon Artists group in London, where she displays her work amongst her fellow artists. She runs sessions throughout the year where she guides children through creating their own art, as she wishes someone could have done for her. Hoda is working towards fulfilling her dreams of exhibiting worldwide and having her own gallery.
